On Saturday, April 18, GMA News Pillar's well-known journalist Howie Severino tells what he went through as a COVID-19 survivor in the I-Witness documentary aired after Tadhana on GMA.
Howie didn't expect that he could be infected with the coronavirus because he was physically active.
He has a fever that lasted for a week and eventually got pneumonia. A few days after, Howie became positive for coronavirus and was listed as the 2,828th COVID-19 patient in the country.
While in the hospital, Howie met a nurse, Gabriel Lazaro, who he found interested in documentaries. He encouraged it to document his life as a front liner and Howie as a patient.
The result of their friendship is the documentary entitled "Ako si Patient 2828" which chronicles the events of the front line and the experiences of patients as they fight with COVID-19 in the hospital, from their test, isolation, and healing inside the hospital, until they have discharged.
Those times, Howie also got an opportunity to talk with his fellow survivor and actress Iza Calzado.
For now, Howie is just waiting for his doctor's clearance for him to donate his blood to other COVID-19 patients to be cured.
